Our Story

Who knew weighing ground-up dog food and extracting fats could lead to romance? But that’s exactly how Colin and Kirsten’s story began over a decade ago, working at a third-party food testing lab called Eurofins in Des Moines. Shortly after Colin joined, he cleverly asked Kirsten, 'Do you like cheese?' and the first date was set at The Cheese Shop. They shared a charcuterie board, a few beers, and plenty of laughs. One date led to another, and Colin even threw in a nerdy pickup line: 'Could you be carbon? Because I’d love to date you.'

From there, life took them to Iowa City for Kirsten’s pharmacy studies at the University of Iowa, then on to Michigan for her first residency year, and finally to Reno, Nevada for her second. Meanwhile, Colin climbed the ranks in software engineering. Over the years, they’ve traveled from the mountains of Alaska to the beaches of Australia, creating memories at every stop.

Thankfully, they no longer have to measure out dog food samples. It’s a different kind of 'happily ever after,' but it suits them perfectly.
